iOS 14 -Features, Compatibility, etc. All you need to know! (WWDC 2020)

On 22 June, Apple came up with its's Worldwide Developers Conference(WWDC) 2020 event and launched iOS 14 along with WatchOS 7, MacOS Big Sur etc. with some India-specific features. A whole lot of exciting features are introduced. Here's the list of the all new interface.

New Fonts, Full Screen Effects & Messages

Apple is adding 20 new document fonts and upgrading 18 new existing font styles. With the iOS 14, messages will feature full screen effects and users will be able to send messages in over 23 Indian languages. If the users will send greetings like Happy Diwali, Happy Birthday, etc. then the messages will feature full screen effects.
Users can now easily have group chats with Inline Replies and Mention feature which will make it easier for the the users to reply to a particular message and focus on any particular member's chats.

Users can have pinned conversations which means that a user can pin up nine of the most important chats at the top to make it easier to reach them and start the conversation quickly. Users can now also add visual identity by adding a photo or a Memoji in a conversation.

Widgets and New App Library

The main highlight of iOS 14 is the "Widgets on The Home Screen". The widgets are no more available just on the Siri Suggestions Panel but can be added on the Home Screen too. Users can arrange widgets however they like, widgets can also be automatically changed according to Time, for instance, in the morning the News will be highlighted, at the night your overall fitness activity will be shown, a user can customise it anytime. Smart widgets can also be added which will allow users to access the most recent and frequently used apps from the Home Screen.

App Library too automatically organises all of your apps into one simple view. Compact Calls option is also added which will pop up the incoming calls at the top without using the entire screen, a user can use the rest of the screen in the mean time. Similarly a Picture-In-Picture Mode is also added which will allow you to keep watching the videos while you use another apps.

MAPS

Maps are also redesigned to make it easier to navigate, all while protecting your privacy. Maps will individually give you the Cycle Directions which will show the nearby bike lanes, paths, etc. Maps are now capable enough to show the busy roads and estimated time of the journey from each busy road.
Maps can now Guide you for nearby places to visit and will find out the best store for you.

Translate & Siri

Translate app has been introduced which supports over 11 languages. You can easily translate by turning your phone to landscape mode, the app will use both the microphones on either sides which will allow the real time easy translation. Translate also has an On-Device Mode which will enable fully offline experience for translation. 
Siri is really an easier way to get information and get things done. So now Siri also comes with a new compact design which means it will not use the entire screen and you can  keep on doing whatever you were, while making siri run, at the same time. Siri is now capable of sending voice messages directly to the receivers and siri now has over 20x more facts which means it will directly tell you the facts or answers rather than giving any web suggestions.



Car Keys & Car Play



Here comes my personal favourite feature, the CarKeys. You can now unlock your car using your iPhone on the go. According to Apple users now don't have to worry about the car keys and can easily unlock there cars by using NFC from there iPhones itself. This feature however works with just a few BMW cars but Apple will sooner be collaborating with other companies too.





Also, Apple CarPlay will allow you to change wallpapers in your cars and will also support new app types.

AirPods

AirPods are now even more enhanced with Spatial Audio. This is a really great technology as it will give you a surround sound experience which means while using your AirPods you can get the surround sound experience even when you move your iPhone/iPad or your head. 


App Clips & Safari

App Clip is a really cool feature, with this a user can get a small part of an app that a user wants at a particular time. In easier words a user can use the specific feature of an app like payment, etc. at the moment they want, without even installing the app. App Clips will automatically suggest you the best app that can be used at that time and in the app library you will have the information of the apps used and if you want, you can install those apps.
According to Apple, Safari is now even more faster and responsive and has become the world's fastest web browser. Safari is now even more safe and will take care of your privacy.

Availability & Compatibility

So this is all about the new iOS 14 which is available for developers from Monday night and public beta will be launched officially in July.
